It’s the first week of April and I’m super excited for sunny days and warmer temperatures! If you’ve been in a winter funk, now is the perfect time to start shaking off tamasic energy and cultivating sattva. MSY is here to help you do just that!
If it’s been a minute since you practiced yoga regularly or if you feel like you need more accountability than our drop-in classes provide, check out Erin Hager’s “Yoga Foundations” series. This six-week series will meet on Sundays at 4:30 starting April 11th. Cost of the series is $65 and can be done in studio (highly recommended since Erin will be able to see you better and offer suggestions specific to your body) or online. Sessions will be recorded for those who cannot attend at the scheduled time. Register here to attend in person. Register here to attend online.
If you want to start a meditation practice, or improve the one you have, join me on Saturday, April 17th at 10:30am for a meditation workshop. I understand that the prospect of meditation can be intimidating, especially if you’ve never tried it on your own or if you have and felt you “failed.” In this workshop, we’ll eliminate the mysticism and strip the practice down to its essence – sitting in silence. We’ll talk about ideal times to meditate, how to take mini-meditation breaks, and how to sit (or lie) comfortably for meditation. I’ll explain how to build your practice gradually, and we’ll explore different styles of meditation so that you can find one that suits you. Following the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in 30-day meditation challenge to help you get your zen ball rolling. Yoga Alliance members can earn 2.5 CEUs! Register here to attend in person. Register here to attend online.
If you feel like you need a mini vacation, don’t miss Storytime Restorative Yoga on Sunday, April 18th at 2:30pm. I’ll be reading from the novel Siddhartha, a classic novel of a quest for knowledge that has delighted, inspired, and influenced generations of readers, writers, and thinkers. It is the story of the quest of Siddhartha, a wealthy Indian Brahmin who casts off a life of privilege and comfort to seek spiritual fulfillment and wisdom. Register here to attend in person. If you’re in need of a total reset, the next round of Body Wisdom is starting on April 17th at 8:00 am. Contact me to schedule a free consultation to see if group health coaching is right for you . . . and if you’re right for us.
If you’re ready to dive deep into the study of yoga, enrollment has started for Yoga Teacher Training at MSY! Despite what its name suggests, yoga teacher training is not exclusive to people who want to become certified yoga teachers. Yoga teacher training is suitable for any individual who yearns to learn more about the emotional, physical, and technical aspects of yoga. In either case, you will find the answers you seek — and so much more — in Main Street Yoga’s 200-hour teacher training. We start June 6th, but don’t delay, enrollment spots are already halfway full!
Finally, if you just need something to look forward to – some yoga and fun in the sun – we have a fantastic group of MSY yogis headed to Costa Rica in the fall! Register before June 1st to receive $200 off shared accommodations (and yes, you can request specific roommates).
In closing, I have a few schedule changes to let you know about. Erin’s “Yoga Foundations” series will be replacing Beginners Yoga on Sundays for the next six weeks, but you can still attend our drop-in beginners class on Wednesdays at 5:30. During those six weeks, the Wednesday class will be taught by Holly Pickens as I finish up my Ayurvedic Health Counseling training! Don’t worry – I’m leaving you in very capable hands. In fact, Holly’s teaching style is so similar to mine that if you close your eyes, you’ll probably think it’s me leading you through your practice. Also, now that Sonya’s chakra series has been completed, she will be teaching an all-levels vinyasa class on Thursdays at 5:30 for the next two weeks. After that, the class will switch to Fridays at 5:30. What better way to finish out your workweek?
That’s all for now! Have a fantastic week. We’ll see you at the studio . . . or on Zoom.
