Summer is here! Covid restrictions are gradually being lifted. And things are finally starting to get back to normal at Main Street Yoga. Now is the perfect time to recommit to your yoga practice, and we have plenty of opportunities for you to do that this month!
First up, I’m offering a six-week “Yoga Foundations” series that kicks off on June 6th at 4:30. Designed to get you back into the swing of things, Yoga Foundations is an exploration of yoga from the ground up! This workshop-style series is appropriate for absolute beginners, returning students, and consistent students who would like a deeper understanding of their practice. Students at any level of fitness are welcome. The fee for this series is $75, which covers all 6 sessions and all supplementary material (videos, handouts, etc.). The series is only being offered in the studio as I will be providing lots of individual attention with student-specific adjustments and modifications. Secure your spot today!
Yoga Teacher Training also kicks off on June 6th. I’m sending training manuals to the printer on Wednesday, so if you’ve been on the fence about training, it’s time to get down and get ready to take your practice to the next level. Fill out your application and join us for this transformational experience!
Since the completion of the 2020-2021 yoga teacher training, Main Street Yoga has gained four new teachers. Each of our teachers bring something unique to the table. I strongly encourage you to try them all out! As a student myself, I understand the comfort and deep learning that comes from practicing with the same teacher for a long period of time, but I also love going to classes with different teachers and gaining a fresh perspective on aspects of my practice.
Also . . . we have five new regularly scheduled classes!
On Tuesday evenings, long-time meditator Mark Benincosa is offering “Meditation & Movement.” I’ve taken this class myself, and I am HOOKED! It’s the perfect balance of meditation, discussion, and movement. Mark’s exceptional and accessible approach is influenced by his background in martial arts, music, reiki, and of course, yoga. Those with no meditation experience as well as those with an established practice are all welcome and encouraged to participate.
Beginning June 9th, Paula Hatten is offering “Blossom and Bloom” on Wednesdays mornings at 7:00. Discover the power of early morning movement! Nourish your body with this all-levels flow with a focus on sun salutations.
On Thursday evenings, Erin Hager is offering “Go With the Flow” at 6:00. This vinyāsa practice starts with a slow flow, allowing students time for mindfulness of the body and awareness of breath. The class progresses into an invigorating power flow, synchronizing one movement of the body with one breath. This practice will leave students feeling grounded, while building strength, endurance, and stability in both body and mind.
On Friday mornings, Holly Pickens is offering “Morning Flow” at 9:00. This class is designed to gently wake the body as we transition to an all-levels vinyasa flow. Leave class feeling energized and awakened as you move through the rest of your day.
On Friday evenings, Sonya Hardesty is offering “Happy Hour Yoga” at 5:30. End your workweek on a high note and sail into the weekend with a new attitude! This all-levels class is guaranteed to help you “let that sh!7 go!”

Now for our special events . . .
Paula Hatten and Samantha Lee are back for “Reiki & Reading” on Saturday, June 5th. This is an opportunity for deep relaxation and energy rejuvenation! Book your appointment today.
The summer solstice (the “official” beginning of summer) happens on June 20th. In the yoga world, we often recognize the solstice and honor the sun within us by completing 108 sun salutations. Sun salutations are a sequence of yoga poses strung together in consistent, flowing movement. If you’ve taken a yoga class, chances are you’ve done a few sun salutations, even if you didn’t know that’s what you were doing. Sun salutations can be challenging, but at MSY, we’re not about torturing ourselves or pushing ourselves to our edge. Our approach to 108 sun salutations means modifying poses and taking breaks as needed.
This year, our 108 practice will begin at 10am and will be offered in the studio AND live online. It will be lead by the dynamic duo: Mark and Natalie Benincosa. Mark and Natalie completed their yoga teacher training together at MSY and won us all over with their authentic affection for each other peppered with playful banter that usually revolved around Natalie trying to convince Mark that he’s too hard on himself. <3 We’ve already introduced you to Mark. If you haven’t met Natalie yet, don’t let her sweet demeanor fool you – this is one tough chick (physically speaking). She a former roller derby girl and power lifter who currently teaches yoga at “Warrior Body,” her home away from MSY.
Jessica Stidham is back this month offering Yinyasa on Wednesday, June 23rd at 7:00pm. Yinyasa offers a unique paring of yoga styles, fusing long-held yin postures that target deep connective tissues with the fluid and energetic style of vinyasa flow. Class begins with a quiet and meditative practice that focuses on nourishing deep connective tissues, and gradually moves into a dynamic flow that will strengthen, invigorate, and move stagnant energy. Register now!
You can find our full schedule here.
One last reminder . . . this fall I’m taking some of my favorite yogis to Costa Rica for a yoga retreat. It’s not too late to join us! But if you want to save $200 on shared accommodations, you have to book today! After that, you’ll pay full price.
That’s it for now! It’s been wonderful seeing new faces in the studio, and especially nice to see familiar faces returning.
Namaste,
Angela
