108 Sun Salutations

Celebrate the Winter Solstice with 108 Sun Salutations! Register here.

The winter solstice celebrates the longest hours of darkness and the rebirth of the sun. The solstice is believed to hold a powerful energy for regeneration, renewal and self-reflection. And what better way to harness that energy than with 108 salutes to the sun?

You may be wondering though, why 108? According to ancient yogis 108 as a number represents the wholeness of existence. This number also connects the Sun, Moon, and Earth. The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters. Such phenomena have given rise to many examples of ritual significance, one being the offering of 108 Sun Salutations.

We will be completing the salutations in groups of 9 for built-in breaks. Challenge yourself by trying to complete all 108, or feel free to drop in and out as you wish. Modifications are encouraged and should be taken as needed. So drop those knees in chaturanga and move through tabletop to get to down dog!
