It’s starting to feel like fall. Students and teachers are back in school, and we’ve finally seen some relief from the heat and humidity that seemed to dominate this summer.
There’s a natural rearranging that happens around this time of year, regardless of whether or not you’re affected by a school calendar. As the days get shorter and cooler, we rearrange our homes, our gardens, our wardrobes, and our schedules. So if outdoor summertime activities have been overshadowing your yoga practice, now is the perfect time to get back to the studio!
If you’ve been missing (or have yet to try) our 30 Minute Refresh class, it’s back on Tuesdays at 12:15. If you’d like to incorporate a shorter practice into your workday, this class is perfect for you! Drop in for $6 or buy a package of 10 for $50.
This coming weekend is Labor Day Weekend. We’ve switched the schedule up a bit. There will be no classes on Sunday and no “Yoga for Strength” on Monday. Instead, we’ll offer restorative yoga at 7pm on Monday. It’s the perfect way to round out the holiday weekend and press the reset button for the week ahead.
Here’s what we have planned for September!
As usual, we’re kicking things off with our monthly Relax and Recharge Open House, which now includes the option of Jin Shin Jyutsu with Judy! Jin Shin Jyutsu uses a gentle touch to harmonize the energy of the body and promote healing. We also offer Reiki, AromaTouch Hand Technique, and Tarot readings. Walk in between 5:00pm-7:00pm on Friday, September 6th and bring a friend! All services are donation based.
For more relaxing and recharging, join Sharon Hovland on September 20th at 6 pm for a Singing Bowls Sound Bath. Experience the interweaving tones and rich harmonics produced by Tibetan singing bowls. The vibration of the bowls creates a beautiful calming sound, assisting you in relaxation. After arising, if you would like to ground yourself, you can stand in Sharon's large bowl as she plays and experience a sound bath all your own! If you have a yoga mat, please bring it with you along with anything else you may need to make yourself comfortable. $20 for adults, one child 12 or under free with adult.
MSY will be in full swing on September 21st for some pre-equinox good vibes! At 11 am, Jennifer Sunderlin is offering Illuminated Reiki 2 training. If you’ve experienced your Reiki 1 transformation, it's time to move forward in Illuminated Reiki 2! Open your energy channels even further, expand your Reiki skills, and unite with fellow practitioners who are also ready to move forward in the energetic evolution! We will learn about distance healing, work with the chakras, engage in personal energy management exercises to empower your practice, experience a hands-on practice, evolutionary techniques, and more! You will be attuned to Reiki symbols and receive The Healing Touch Reiki 1 & 2 by William Rand, additional handouts, and certificate for completing the training. You must be attuned to and have received Reiki 1 training prior to attending. If you have any questions or prefer Paypal, email Jennifer at illuminationhealing8@gmail.com.
At 4:15 on the 21st, Judy Roylance kicks off her second Tarot Course. Judy is an experienced Tarot reader who is ready to help you develop a greater understanding of the 78 cards and their interrelationships! If you are interested in learning to read Tarot register now! This class is limited to 5 students.
In the mala workshop at 6pm on the 21st, you’ll create a Mala that is uniquely you! You’ll also learn about mantras and affirmations and experience essential oils for meditation! These tools are very helpful (and fun!) to utilize in beginning a meditation practice, or they can assist in creating a new dynamic to your existing practice! In addition to your mala, you’ll receive an informational packet to take home with you! Materials will be provided by HILOS, supporting local artisans in Oaxaca, Mexico.
On Sunday the 22nd, join us for a Chakra Connection Workshop. Jen will help us take a fresh look at each chakra, learn how to identify imbalances, understand how they can manifest as physical symptoms or behavioral patterns, and learn how to shift them with grace. After our discussion, we will engage in a yoga asana for the chakras, then relax into an intuitive chakra meditation allowing you to identify the chakra that needs more love! You will receive an informational handbook. Space is limited, so register today!
Finally, it’s a bittersweet time for us at MSY as we bid farewell to Sheray as she prepares for a fresh start as a mom and a studio owner in Buckhannon. Those of you who have been around for while know that when MSY first opened its doors, Sheray and I were the only teachers here. In fact, I’m not sure that MSY would be here right now if Sheray hadn’t shown Fairmont that it was ready for yoga to have a home of its own in our city. But evolution is the most natural thing in the universe, so while we will miss her, we are excited for her and wish her nothing but the best. Thankfully, our teacher ranks have grown and we have three other outstanding yoga teachers that emerged from our early student roster, including Jennifer Sunderlin, who will take over our popular Saturday morning class: Flow + Yin.
That’s it for now! See you at the studio!
